5 months


The Girl turned five months old, and with the help of Alfred, carefully arranged her blocks to display this fact to any passersby.  What she was even more proud of was the fact that she had gone over six weeks without a transfusion, but she didn’t have enough blocks to brag about that.

It was around this time that The Girl started making noises that sounded like “Mom.”  Not Momma, not Mama, but Mom.  Alfred knew he had to act quickly, or else.


It was September.  The temperatures were dropping, depressingly, and Alfred knew he needed to get out to enjoy Alaska this month before the real chill set in.
